Dynamic Shoe Last Design

Shoe last design is a handcraft and common lasts are usually based on the expertise of last designers and shoe manufacturers. Main problems of this traditional last construction are the dependency on these individual experiences. Especially with regard that fit and comfort of shoes is directly linked to last design. Another problem is the lack in data-based information and also in knowledge of foot deformation during natural walking. Several last concepts already consider static foot morphology, but up to know no dynamic measurement results could be taken into account.
Latest advances in scanner technology enable to detect foot deformations during natural walking (Schmeltzpfenning, 2009; Fritz, 2011).

Input for dynamic last concept

The aim of the APPLODYNSCA project is to develop a dynamic shoe last concept. This concept is based on 3D dynamic foot measurements of 1000 subjects. The knowledge of dynamic changes and comparison of last and foot dimensions will be used to improve and objectify lasts and shoes
